More Radicals
In Nemeth, a general radical (such as a cube root), is created with the general radical indicator (dots 126), followed by the index of the root (in this case, the number 3), followed by the opening radical indicator (dots 345) and then the expression under the radical, followed by the terminating indicator (dots 12456). However, the radical index does not have to be a simple number or variable, but can be a combination of any of the aforementioned items.
To enter a nested radical, you can either type out the entire expression by hand, or enter dots 345 as many times as needed to denote the depth of the radical, then arrow to the full cells and enter the appropriate arguments.
When typing a nested radical, that is, a radical that contains a radical, the Nemeth braille output will supply the nested radical indicators, which need not be supplied from the keyboard.
Exercises
Type the following expressions into the equation editor below and verify that the equation editor produces the proper Nemeth braille output in each case. Also verify that a sighted friend can read each expression you have typed as it is displayed on the screen. Feel free to try your own examples, and to explore other combinations of radical expressions, with expressions both inside and outside the radical.
